The Parola school campus was completed in two months.
Pupils and students had spent years in temporary accommodation and in the old community school, which had indoor air problems. One of the main wishes of the Hattula municipality was that the new building should have absolutely clean indoor air and quiet acoustics.
The new 1500 m2 school campus in Parola meets these requirements. The dynamic building solution is based on Fixcel®️ steel cells, a durable, safe and long-lasting building material. Its main advantages are energy efficiency and clean indoor air.
The classrooms in the two-storey school building can be combined according to need and the number of people. Quiet areas for individual or small group work are provided for special needs education. Safety and accessibility have been taken into account with security cameras, locks on classroom doors and barrier-free passageways.
The school campus also has a common break room for teachers, where important meetings and discussions can take place for the first time. The headteacher of Parola, Johanna Hyytiä, was delighted with this, as it was not the case in the older schools in the area. She also commented that the colour scheme of the building was just what was requested, full of calming and earthy tones that contribute to a restful finish. The collaboration with the architects and interior designers is paying off and has been valuable throughout the project, including from the users’ point of view.
- Students and teachers are delighted to have been involved in the design, down to the smallest detail. For example, the student council was able to test chairs to find the most user-friendly designs for those who will actually be using the facilities,” says Johanna.
- The pupils were most excited about the courtyard area, as the old schoolyard had very few activities or rest areas. The pupils played a big role in the design of the courtyard, asking for sports equipment, benches and canopies.
